Printable QR code preflight checklist

Use this checklist before publishing a QR code on a menu, poster, package, label, sign or screen.Written by Qraffe · Updated September 15, 2026 · 2 min read

Content and destination

Check the encoded URL, text, contact, Wi-Fi, email, phone, SMS or WhatsApp details before you publish. Confirm that the destination works on a phone and on the network your audience will use.

  1. Confirm every encoded detail is correct.
  2. Test the destination on a phone.
  3. Check phone country codes and Wi-Fi security settings.
  4. Remove unnecessary URL parameters or text when they add no value.

Design and decoding

A QR code needs strong contrast, a clear quiet zone and enough physical space to scan at its intended distance. Test the final file on at least two phones or camera apps.

  1. Use a solid, high-contrast foreground and background.
  2. Keep a clear quiet zone around every edge.
  3. Keep logos modest, centered and tested.
  4. Test the final downloaded file on more than one phone.

Export and physical placement

The downloaded file must stay sharp at its intended size. Test a printed proof at its actual size and under the lighting where people will scan it.

  1. Use SVG when your print workflow supports it.
  2. Test a proof at its final size.
  3. Keep the code away from folds, glare, seams and curves.
  4. Test it after trimming, mounting, laminating or applying the final label.

Use Qraffe for the first pass

Qraffe checks contrast, quiet zone, payload density, logo coverage, error correction and local decode success while you create a static code in your browser. Those checks reduce common risks but cannot reproduce every printer, camera, surface or lighting condition.
